Members
The membership of the Geographic Education Study Group includes dedicated groups of faculty and students from across Canada who are involved in geographic education research and practice in their universities and local school systems.
Membership in the CAG Geographic Education Study Group is open to all members of the Canadian Association of Geographers (CAG), and free for student members. Further details can be found here
Mission
The mission of the CAG Geographic Education Study Group is to promote geographic education, and the understanding of geographic education at all levels with a view to fostering geographic literacy. To do this the Study Group is interested in:
- encouraging research in geographic education
- organizing special sessions in geographic education at the annual general meeting
- supporting a CAG geographic education website
- liaising with other CAG study groups on aspects of geographic education related to their area of study (e.g. GIS/SIG Study Group)
- maintaining ties with geography teachers, faculties of education, and related associations and governmental agencies (e.g. CCGE, OAGEE, CCACC, ACMLA, NRCAN)
- promoting innovative teaching practices in geographic education
- promoting cross-curricular ties to other social sciences and to environmental studies, earth science, history, biology, and mathematics
- monitoring and providing advice on curriculum reform in geography in Canada
- producing resources for promoting geography and fostering geographic literacy
